EMMIE // ROW
1. What is your teaching and wellness philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is all about empowerment. I love to show people that with enough good attitude and effort any goal can be reached. The worst thing you can do is to put limitations on yourself by saying “I can’t.” When you accomplish something physically that is just out of your reach you gain a confidence that you can take on the world.
2. Do you have a personal mantra/word to help get you through a challenging session?
“i don’t get tired” Where the term comes from is to not allow one’s self to make any excuses for not accomplishinggoals. Of course we’ll get tired, but we’ll never stop trying to get better. Its about being strong for myself and continuing to make myself stronger, fitter, faster. I don’t give up on myself. When things get really hard…..."well, I don’t get tired so I’m going get through this." So much about being successful especially in rowing is mindset and how you approach each workout. If we tell ourselves that we don’t get tired, then the potential of where you can go is limitless. It’s about not putting any boundaries on ourselves and realizing anything is possible.
3. Who are you inspired by?
When not at OMpower, I coach a high school women’s rowing team. I get a lot of strength from the girls who are putting in the hard work everyday. They also give me strength because I have to be strong for them to lead them. I can’t let little things get in the way. Being a high school rowing coach has made me a better person.
4. What is your guilty pleasure?
Wine and cheese!
5. What should a student expect when going to one of your classes?
You will come out of class as a better rower and having learned something about yourself.
Row for real with real rowers
